Sister Ann deGuise Scholarship Endowment
Sister Ann deGuise was in eighth grade at Divine Child Catholic School in Dearborn when she decided to dedicate her life to the Lord. She eventually spent more than 50 years as a teacher and later principal at Nouvel Catholic Central schools. Her passion for academic excellence inspired the creation of the Sister Ann deGuise Endowed Scholarship, which makes it possible for students to get the same quality, Catholic education that inspired her calling to the sisterhood.
An Investment in the Next Generation

Parents choose Catholic schools because they’re grounded in spiritual and moral values that are so important in forming our students. Catholic school graduates are also more civically engaged, more tolerant of diverse views and more committed to service as adults than their public school peers.
Donating to the Sister Ann deGuise Endowment Scholarship Fund will enable you to help Nouvel Catholic Central students receive a quality education.
Established in 2018 as a long-term fund with endowment provisions, interest from the fund accumulates and is distributed each year into the general scholarship awards made by Saint Gerard Society.
“One of the most rewarding things for me was being with the students. I was able to expose them to the wonders of learning not only the academics, but what it means to be a Catholic and how to live out that faith.
“I watched them grow into young adults and then become parents themselves. Nothing is better than seeing in the eyes of a child a smile that says ‘thank you,’ followed by a genuine hug.”

About Sister Ann deGuise

Sister Ann deGuise was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, where she attended Divine Child Elementary School. Her family then moved to Reading, Pennsylvania, where she was taught by the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis at Alvernia High School. It was there that her love of working with children and teaching blossomed and she formally entered the religious life at the age of 17.
She pursued a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Alvernia University, followed by a master’s degree in administration from Dayton University.
After her schooling, Sister Ann spent 54 years as a teacher and administrator. In 1990, she relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, and primarily taught math and religion to seventh and eighth graders at St. Thomas Aquinas School, now Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School, before becoming the principal in 1994. As an educator, Sister Ann was known for always lending a compassionate, listening ear, humor and playfulness.
Sister Ann retired in 2018 and was inducted into the Nouvel Catholic Central Hall of Fame.
In 2024, Sister Ann was called back to her motherhouse in Reading, Pennsylvania, along with two other sisters. They were the last three of the 250 Bernardine Franciscan Sisters who served the Saginaw Diocese over the past several decades.
